FAQ
Common questions about sessions, remote work, and pricing.
What should I bring to a recording session?
Bring your instrument, any pedals or effects you use, extra strings/picks/sticks, a tuner, and any reference tracks. For vocalists: warmed up and hydrated. Bring printed lyric sheets or charts. The more prepared you are, the more studio time you spend creating rather than organizing.
How long does mixing and mastering take?
Mixing typically takes 1–3 days per song. Mastering takes 1 day per song after an approved mix. You'll receive a first sample for feedback and we'll refine from there. Rush turnarounds are available — ask when booking.
Can I sit in on my session?
Absolutely — we encourage it, especially for mixing sessions where real-time feedback is the fastest path to a result you love. Remote clients can do video call check-ins at key milestones.
How do I send tracks for remote mixing or mastering?
Once you book, we'll send file upload instructions. We accept WAV or AIFF at 24-bit/44.1kHz or higher, exported as individual tracks (stems) all starting at the same point in the timeline. Label them clearly (e.g. KICK_IN, VOX_LEAD_01). WeTransfer and Dropbox both work fine.
What if I'm on a tight budget?
Contact us and be upfront about it. We built this studio on the belief that every artist deserves quality recordings. We'll tell you honestly what's achievable and find the most value-efficient path for your project.
Do you work with first-time podcasters?
Yes — many podcast clients are launching their first show. We can advise on mic setup, recording environment, episode structure, and hosting platforms in addition to editing and mastering. The Edit Only package ($100/ep) is a great starting point.
Do you work with artists outside the Philadelphia area?
Absolutely. Mixing, mastering, podcast editing, and sound design are all fully remote. You send your files, we deliver your finished audio, and we connect via video call for review sessions. Many clients never set foot in a studio and still get the same results as someone recording in person.
What file format should I use when sending tracks?
WAV or AIFF at 24-bit, 44.1kHz or higher. Export each track as a separate stem, all starting at the same point in the timeline so everything lines up. Name them clearly — KICK_IN, VOX_LEAD_01, GTR_RHYTHM_L — and consolidate any tracks you want treated as one unit. Leave 3–6dB of headroom on your master bus. We'll send detailed export instructions when you book.
How do revisions work?
Every mix includes one revision round based on written notes. Additional revisions are billed at $85/hr — but in practice, specific written feedback ('the kick needs more attack around 3–5kHz, the vocal needs to sit further forward in the bridge') gets you to a final mix faster than a second pass ever would. The client portal lets you approve mixes, flag changes, and leave timestamped notes directly on the file.
What are your typical turnaround times?
Mixing: 1–3 business days per song. Mastering: 1 business day per song after an approved mix. Podcast editing: 3–5 days standard, 48-hour rush available. These are working estimates — a complex mix or a heavy revision round takes longer, and I'll always tell you upfront. Rush delivery is available on most services for an additional fee.
